Tata Motors' compact SUV, the Nexon launched in July last year added a feather on its cap by scoring four out of five stars in a crash test conducted by the global safety watchdog Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP).
Tata Nexon scored 13.56 points out of 17 points to secure a four-star rating in adult occupant safety while the SUV scored 25 points out of 49 to attain three stars in child equipment safety. The Global NCAP report claims the Nexon sold frontal double airbags, frontal double pre-tensioners, ABS brakes and ISOFIX anchorages achieved a strong result in the crash test.
Tata Motors compact SUV offered good protection for head and neck of driver and passenger and adequate protection for their chests with a stable structure at 64kmph. The report claims rearward facing CRS installed with Isofix anchorages showed good protection to the 18 months old child, while the Isofix forwards facing installed CRS offered good protection for head and limited protection to the chest.
Tata Motors offers frontal double airbags and ABS brakes from the base variant of the Nexon onwards while the Isofix child seat anchorage is offered only on the XZ+ and XZA+ trims.
"The 4 stars awarded to the Tata Nexon represent a very strong result from a major Indian car manufacturer. This impressive safety performance is comfortably above the new crash test standards applied in India to new models since October 2017. The race is clearly on for India's first 5-star car!," said David Ward, Secretary General of Global NCAP.
Tata Nexon is one of e bestselling models for the company and it finds nearly 4,000 takers every month in the domestic market. Priced from Rs 6.16 lakh for petrol variants and Rs 7.18 lakh for diesel variants, the Nexon draws power from either a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine or a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated diesel mill. The compact SUV is available in both manual and automatic transmission options.
