In September 2015, Christian Mardrus, Senior Vice-President and Chairman of the Management Committee for Africa, the Middle East and India at Nissan Motor Co Ltd, confirmed the entry of the company's sports car GT-R, which is also known as Godzilla, in India.
Sources close to the development have told IBTimes India GT-R will enter to India at the 2016 Auto Expo in February. The Nissan GT-R is expected to be priced around Rs 3 crore, and the allocation for India is reportedly just five units. Bewildered by the number? Nissan itself knows the price tag of Rs 3 crore means GT-R enters the playground of Ferraris and Lamboghinis. The company is not expecting a large volume of sales at this price point, and wants to keep the car's exclusivity in India. This is also considered as a move by the Japanese brand to enter the premium vehicle segment, with the company's new X-Trail SUV to follow. The X-Trail SUV will also be exhibited at the Auto Expo.
The four-seater sports GT-R with two doors will be imported to the country as a completely built unit. The GT in the name stands for Grand Tourer, and the R refers to Racing technology. Since its launch in the global market, the GT-R is considered as one of the world's best high-performance super sports car and has also been mentioned in Guinness World Records for being the fastest four-seater production car achieving 0-100 kmph in just 3.5 seconds in 2009.
Godzilla is be powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6, which belts out 542bhp at 6,400 rpm and 632 Nm of torque in the range of 3,200-5,800 rpm. The power will be transmitted to all four wheels via a six-speed dual clutch transmission. The four-wheel drive system comes with independent transaxle and also LSD (Limited Slip Differential). The engine of GT-R is handcrafted by Japan's master craftsmen, the Takumis. There are only four Takumis, and each engine is assembled by a single Takumi.
The GT-R will be the new halo car for the Indian line-up, a position the 370Z has left blank with its discontinuation.
