One of the biggest joys for smartphone users is receiving that major software update to breathe new life into phones. OnePlus, among handful other brands, focuses heavily on the software and delivers a near-Android experience in OxygenOS, which many users love. Among those are the lucky ones who get to try out the unreleased software versions by signing up for the company's beta testing program and it's time for a new treat.

It has only been a few days since OnePlus 6 received Android Pie-based OxygenOS Open Beta, making the OnePlus flagship one of the very few handsets to even receive the latest software even if it means in beta. Those who installed the latest OxygenOS are now getting the second version of OxygenOS Open Beta 2, which brings several improvements many users didn't even realised existed.

OnePlus 6 users on OxygenOS Open Beta 2 will experience the improvements in terms of overall performance of the device, but it is the little things that make the bigger difference. If you love taking a lot of selfies on the OnePlus 6, the latest software has optimised the image quality for the front camera, which already seemed like it was at the top of its game.

As per OnePlus' official changelog for OxygenOS Open Beta 2, OnePlus 6 devices will have improved Wi-Fi stability, optimised background power consumption and pocket mode. The update also comes with a revamped user interface for OTPs and the volume settings shortcut appears underneath the volume panel like the one we've seen on Android Pie-powered Google Pixel.

But some users who experienced touch latency in their OnePlus 6 after updating to Android 9 Pie-based OxygenOS beta version will gratefully embrace the latest update. OnePlus has refined the multitasking interface and scrolling and touch latencies.

It is nice to see a brand patch software bugs so quickly, even if the software is still in beta. If the company continues patching at the same pace, it is only a matter of time before the final version of the OS is ready to be shipped out to all OnePlus 6 users as well as owners of older OnePlus phones. But those who download the open beta version of the latest OxygenOS must be prepared for some applications to not function as expected.
