All eyes are on Apple's next-generation smartphones dubbed as the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus as they are expected to hit the stores towards the end of the third quarter of this year. But will the device disappoint its fans like in the past with some feature upgrades and without much innovation? The picture isn't crystal clear as of now but we can share you what we have heard about the device so far.

It was first reported that Apple might not be able to follow the usual launch schedule of its iPhone for the upcoming flagship owing to its plan to introduction curved OLED panels and 3D sensing system features but it has now emerged that the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) might start mass production of the A11 chipset as early as July, which may pave way for release in September like its predecessors.

Nothing much has been leaked on the iPhone 8 and its bigger sibling iPhone 8 Plus but people may still want to have some idea of how it may stack up against its predecessors, especially the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. Let's have a look at what the handsets have to offer.

The iPhone 7 features a 4.7-inch (diagonal) LED‑backlit widescreen with Retina HD and 1,334x750p resolution (326 ppi pixel density), a 64-bit architure-based A10 Fusion chip with M10 motion coprocessor, an Apple iOS v10, a 32GB/128GB/256GB internal memory and a 2GB RAM. It also has a 12MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture, digital zoon (up to 5x), Optical image Stabilisation, six-element lens, and Quad-LED True Tone flash, a 7MP front-snapper with ƒ/2.2 aperture and auto image stabilization, and a 1,960mAh battery.

The bigger iPhone 7 Plus sports a 5.5-inch (diagonal) LED‑backlit widescreen with Retina HD and 1,080x1920p resolution (401 ppi pixel density), comes packed with a 3GB RAM, houses a 2,900mAh battery, and mounts a dual 12MP main camera (ƒ/1.8 aperture) with wide-angle field of view + telephoto camera (ƒ/1.9 aperture), Optical zoom at 2x, digital zoom up to 10x, OIS, six-element lens and Quad-LED True Tone flash, and a 7MP front-snapper with ƒ/2.2 aperture. It shares other specifications with the iPhone 7.

On the other hand, Apple's upcoming flagship is expected to come in three variants – the iPhone 8 with a 4.7-inch display, the iPhone 8 Plus with 5.5-inch screen, and a premium version with 5.8-inch display. It is expected to have several feature upgrades over its predecessors but the most notable would be its design.

The iPhone 8 is expected to feature a slim bezel and do away with the physical home button. Reports have it that it will come with an OLED (organic light-emitting diode) screen, a wireless charger, a 3D depth-sensing front camera, a new fingerprint ID solution, and an A11 chipset. It is also expected to be priced around $1000.

It is not fair to draw a comparison between the upcoming iPhone 8 and its predecessor at this point of time but Apple fans could expect some innovation, especially in terms of design in the new device rather than just some features upgrades.
