A training exercise for the Ecuadorian army went wrong Tuesday as a plane carrying 22 crashed into the Amazon forest. All 22 aboard the plane died, Ecuador's President Rafael Correa said.
The Israeli-built Arava plane crashed in the Pastaza province in the Amazon area at 19.30 GMT, Tuesday. There were 19 soldiers onboard for a parachuting course, one mechanic and two pilots, who were also a part of the army.
"There are no survivors. It's a tragedy," tweeted Correa, in Spanish.
The cause of the crash was not immediately clear, the Guardian reported.
Defence Minister Ricardo Patino and rescue teams were travelling to the area to investigate, according to BBC.
