Bill Murray is all set to make an appearance in the upcoming reboot of the critically successful supernatural comedy film, Ghostbusters, starring Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Kristen Wiig.
The decision was pretty shocking to the fans as for a long time, Murray had expressed his disinterest in the reboot and participating in any of the sequels.
Earlier, the actor cited the passing of his original Ghostbusters co-star Harold Ramis in 2014 and conflicts regarding the script of the reboot as the reasons for his rejection.
What finally convinced the actor to come out of hiding onto Paul Feig's set? Reportedly, it was because of film's outstanding actresses that persuaded Murray to appear for a cameo. In an interview with Vulture, Murray said, "I like those girls a lot. I mean, I really do. They are tough to say no to. And Paul is a real nice fellow."
He added further, "They have such a jolly group, and they are going to have great success with this project. I didn't want to overshadow [them] or anything, and I feel really good about it."
However, Murray won't be joining the crew as Dr. Peter Venkman, instead, as Vulture reported, he will "appear as a character out to debunk the new Ghostbusters crew."
Even though it is a small role, Murray mulled over the decision for quite a long time before joining the project. "I thought about it for a very long time," he explained. "Like, many, many months. No, that's not right. I was seriously thinking about this for years, really ... It kept eating at me, and I really respect those girls. And then I started to feel like if I didn't do this movie, maybe somebody would write a bad review or something, thinking there was some sort of disapproval [on my part]."
Ghostbusters is set to open on 15 July, 2016. The cast also includes Chris Hemsworth as the team's receptionist, Andy Garcia as New York City's Mayor, and Neil Casey as the main villain, along with Matt Walsh, Michael K. Williams, and Cecily Strong. Dan Akroyd has confirmed for a cameo too.
